Kim Hye-sung, 24, of the Kiwoom Heroes, failed to steal his first base of the season.

Kim Hye-sung started the game 스포츠토토 against the Samsung Lions of the 2023 Shinhan Bank Solar KBO League at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu, South Korea, on April 22, batting second.

In the top of the seventh inning, with her team leading 2-0, Kim hit a single to right off reliever Yang Chang-seop.

After Lee Jung-hoo flied out to center field, Kim stole second base from Lee Won-seok. When Yang Chang-seop threw Lee Won-seok a second pitch, he broke his stride and slid into second base.

However, Samsung catcher Kim Tae-gun promptly threw to second base, and second baseman Kim Ji-chan caught the ball and tagged out Kim Hye-sung.

The play was initially ruled safe, but was overturned as an out after video review.

It was the first stolen base of the season for Kim, who was tied for the team lead with 15 stolen bases before the game.

Kim Hye-sung, who won the stolen base title for the first time in her career with 46 stolen bases in 2021, was second in the category last year with 34 stolen bases.

This year, she’s tied for the lead in stolen bases and has an impressive success rate, stealing 15 bases and failing to throw out a single one.

Shin Min-jae of the LG Twins, who is tied for first with Kim Hye-sung with 15 stolen bases, has been caught five times, and Jung Soo-bin of the Doosan Bears has been caught four times.

Meanwhile, the record for the most consecutive stolen bases in a KBO season is 22, held by Kim Ji-chan. Kim Ha-seong (San Diego Padres), who played for Kiwoom in 2020, is second with 21.

Kim is third on the list with 20 consecutive stolen bases to start the 2021 season.
